Anthropogenic activities in our lifetime have caused climate change and whilst io’s operations are small, we are acutely aware that the whole economy needs to act to halt climate risks. Therefore, io is ready to put in place commitments and measures designed to deliver on the Paris Agreement goals.
Our approach is two-fold; firstly, we are bringing our expertise to help solve the problems the world faces; since 2018 io has developed several energy transition capabilities and services which in 2020 has resulted in over 40% of our business engagements being in the energy transition space. We offer our clients solutions and services to help them achieve their own low carbon ambitions.

Secondly, we must look at ourselves and decarbonise our own operations. Given io has no scope 1 or 2 emissions our focus will be to reduce scope 3, to this end io is committed to making significant scope 3 carbon emissions reductions by 2030.

Our pledge is to reduce io’s scope 3 emissions by 50% by 2030,
based on the most stringent scope 3 target goals (ambition 3).

In making this pledge we have undertaken a comprehensive audit of our carbon emissions across our operations and supply chain, centred on our carbon emissions in 2019 as our base year, our most active year since inception in 2015. Our ambitions are ‘science based’ and in line with what the best science states is required for striving to limit global temperature rise to below 1.5° C above pre-industrial levels.

io is committed to building a sustainable business for
our clients, our people and the planet.

Our ambitions were established using the absolute contraction method and through a process of identifying carbon reduction pathways across our entire operations, considering future business growth. These pathways require behavioural adjustments by each employee and the way we conduct business.

In developing our pledge to achieve our net zero ambitions, we have established processes for measuring, monitoring and reporting emissions.

We endeavour to be transparent with our process and have submitted our commitment letter to the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) as well as a Call to Action to begin the validation process of our targets. This is an important milestone in transparency, accountability and ambition to have a positive global environmental and societal impact.

Our pledge is a key element of our ambition to help shape and accelerate the energy transition for affordable, reliable and cleaner energy for all.
